Italian Open (tennis) in Rome

Italian Open (Internazionali BNL D’Italia) 2019: the rain is the protagonist

The important tennis tournament that takes place every year in Rome in May, this year it suffers the incessant bad weather that hits Rome

The Italian Open are the most important Italian tennis sports tournament.

It is considered by many to be one of the three most important tournaments in the world.

Together with the French Open and Roland Garros, it is part of the triptych of tournaments on clay that take place in sequence, called the “red slam”.

Since 2002 the tournament has been held in the second and third week of May.

This year the tournament takes place in Rome from 6 to 19 May and sees the big names of international tennis clash on the Foro Italico’s red earth : Djokovic, Errani, Federer, Fognini, Nadal, the Williams sisters.

But the real protagonist is the bad weather.
So much to see whole sessions and suspended days. The day of May 15 was the worst of all and saw all the scheduled competitions suspended due to violent storms that hit the city.

The course of the tournament has therefore undergone drastic variations on the program: today, May 16, 2019, a real tour de force for the competing athletes took place in the same day, second and third round!

For the last days of the competition, we hope for better weather and more stable temperatures …

A big good luck to all the athletes in the race, from the Roma Starbike staff.
